Rap student on youtube make apologizes

KL :A Malaysian Chinese student publicly apologized for posting a racially provocative rap video of the national anthem on YouTube that enraged ethnic Malays, reports said Wednesday (August 15th).

Wee Meng Chee, 24, came under fire for mocking the national anthem and highlighting ethnic differences in his rap video posted on the video-sharing Web site last month, which sparked a flood of criticism from Malays, but expressions of support from the ethnic Chinese community.

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said it was unlikely the Malaysian student could be recalled from a Taiwan university, amid outrage from rights groups over the government's threat to lay sedition charges.

"If a Malaysian citizen commits something unlawful under Malaysian law in a foreign land, we cannot recall him or her except to frame charges,"

Syed Hamid told reporters.
